Many years beyond the scope of this assignment, I came to appreciate a song by Sade called Never as Good as the First Time. What I took from those lyrics was to remember special moments as unique without trying to repeat them. For years I had wanted to revisit The Olive Tree for the unique food-flavors and also to relive something that was going on at that time. I think for one thing, we kids were trying to act more grown-up and sophisticated when out in public and one of the ways I thought I could project my new-found maturity was in sharing the music that I enjoyed. While waiting for our grinders, Molly and I would wheedle a few quarters for the jukebox. These were some of our picks:
1972 Frankenstein The Edgar Winter Group
1972 Brandy (You're A Fine Girl) Looking Glass
Brandy (You're A Fine Girl) Lyrics
There's a port on a western bay And it serves a hundred ships a day Lonely sailors pass the time away And talk about their homes
And there's a girl in this harbor town And she works layin' whiskey down They say, "Brandy, fetch another round" She serves them whiskey and wine
The sailors say, "Brandy, you're a fine girl" (You're a fine girl) What a good wife you would be (Such a fine girl) Yeah your eyes could steal a sailor from the sea"
Brandy wears a braided chain Made of finest silver from the north of Spain A locket that bears the name Of a man that Brandy loves
He came on a summer's day Bringin' gifts from far away But he made it clear he couldn't stay No harbor was his home
The sailor said, "Brandy, you're a fine girl (You're a fine girl) What a good wife you would be (Such a fine girl) But my life, my love, and my lady is the sea"
Yeah, Brandy used to watch his eyes When he told his sailor's story She could feel the ocean fall and rise She saw its ragin' glory But he had always told the truth Lord, he was an honest man And Brandy does her best to understand
At night, when the bars close down Brandy walks through a silent town And loves a man who's not around She still can hear him say
She hears him say, "Brandy, you're a fine girl (You're a fine girl) What a good wife you would be (Such a fine girl) But my life, my love, and my lady is the sea"
"Brandy, you're a fine girl (You're a fine girl) What a good wife you would be (Such a fine girl) But my life, my love, and my lady is the sea"
1973 Money Pink Floyd
Money Lyrics
Money, get away
Get a good job with more pay and you're O.K.
Money, it's a gas
Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash
New car, caviar, four star daydream,
Think I'll buy me a football team
Money, get back
I'm all right, Jack, keep your hands off of my stack.
Money, it's a hit
Don't give me that do goody good bullshit
I'm in the high-fidelity first-class traveling set
And I think I need a Learjet
Money, it's a crime
Share it fairly but don't take a slice of my pie
Money, so they say
Is the root of all evil today
But if you ask for a rise it's no surprise that they're giving none away
Today, The Olive Tree no longer exists nor does my desire to repeat my experiences there. Though, I’m thankful for the memories and smiles of which these songs remind me.
