What follows is a curated collection of songs starting from my earliest memories and ending in the jumble of cassettes in the glove compartment of my first car, spanning the period between 1965 and 1980. In putting this list together, I realized that it wasn’t until after my first car was a memory that I really began choosing music on its own merits rather than because of the people or experiences with which it was associated. So, I decided to present my choices anecdotally, giving you some context for their inclusion. I found it difficult not to share songs from Kansas, Heart, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Jeferson Starship, Little Feat, Supertramp, The Doobie Brothers and Boston since I played their albums A LOT! But their music doesn’t weave into the stories I want to tell. Though, I suspect that a few of their songs may be presented to you from within someone else’s stories.
